Bellafill®

What Is Bellafill®?

Approved by the FDA, this dermal filler is administered as a semi-permanent implantation in the skin to correct nasolabial folds, or more commonly known as smile lines. Both men and women can receive an Bellafill® treatment. Unlike other dermal fillers, Bellafill® is non-resorbable, which means that the solution is not absorbed by the body; therefore, the treatment does not require reinjection as often as other fillers to maintain results.

What is Bellafill® Made Of?

Bellafill® is composed of a local anesthetic called lidocaine and bovine collagen microspheres which are responsible for the production of a synthetic implant material known as polymethylmethacrylate. In accordance with the FDA and the guidelines set by USDA, these materials roughly measure 30 to 50 microns, which are hardly visible to the naked eye. A skin test is usually required prior to the initial use of Bellafill®. It is only meant to be administered by licensed practitioners such as our providers here at Gillespie Plastic Surgery.

What Are The Benefits of Bellafill®?

The treatment smooths out moderate to severe wrinkles and facial folds along the nose to the corners of the mouth. It is meant to be a semi-permanent solution to wrinkles and other signs of facial aging. It is also administered to restore facial volume and fullness.

Who Are Not Good Candidates For Bellafill® Treatments?

This dermal filler is not to be used on patients who have allergies to any of the product’s components, or those who have a history of severe anaphylaxis or allergies. Patients who are allergic to lidocaine may not be able to get this treatment as well. Furthermore, individuals who have a tendency to scar excessively or those who plan to desensitize from meat products are not eligible to receive treatment.

What Are The Side Effects of Bellafill®?

As with other injectable fillers, Bellafill® may produce several side effects at the injection sites after treatment. These include bruising, itching, redness, swelling, pain, and tenderness in the area. Our doctors in the facility will provide you with specific instructions on how you can alleviate such side effects during your recovery.
